Geauga Lyric Theater Guild Presents: Neil Simon's "Barefoot in the Park" is a lighthearted play focused on a newlywed couple living in their first apartment in New York. However, "happily ever after" does not begin immediately after "I do," as main characters Corie and Paul Bratter come to find throughout this comedy of errors. In addition to adjusting to married life, Corie and Paul must also continually battle their malfunctioning, undersized apartment and settle their obvious personality differences, while attempting to hook up Corie's inhibited mother, perfectly portrayed by Yvonne Pilarczyk, with their odd neighbor, Victor Velasco, played creatively by Tim Coles. Corie Bratter, played by the talented Mary Shirring portrays the iconic 60's female, an optimistic free spirit who insists on loosening her husband’s wound-too-tight tie through impromptu activities, such as walking barefoot in the park in the dead of winter. David Malinowski's character, Paul, is the straitlaced, nice guy, who is fresh out of law school. He tolerates Corie's antics, but his reserved persona prevents him from engaging in her wild activities. Aaron Drews gets chuckles out of his two scenes as a telephone repairman man. Producer Kimberly Herrman Berry says the audience will be treated opening weekend to newcomer Judge David Fuhry as the Lord & Taylor Delivery Guy. The following weekend GLTG Veteran Ken Baltitus will play the part and the last weekend Jim Walsh (also a GLTG rookie) will portray the character. Any weekend you choose it will be worth it! The show is directed by Ann Hedger, stage managed by Karen Paktinat with set design and construction under the direction of Jim Koehnle. Ann is well respected in the Theater Community and with her at the helm, a talented cast & a great set, the show is sure to be a hit. GLTG will host a Mother's Day reception during intermission with all Moms receiving a flower as a gift. Produced in cooperation with Dramatic Publishing. Geauga Theater is located on the historical square of Chardon Ohio. Show runs weekends from May 2nd thru May 18th |
